PSDI pilot project finishes training Fijian women professionals

Graduates of PSDI's Women in Leadership Program in Suva on November 30.
A group of 25 women employees of companies listed on Fiji’s South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPSE) graduated today from a PSDI pilot project designed to prepare them for leadership and board positions.

Over three, two-day sessions, the Women in Leadership Program—part of PSDI’s Economic Empowerment of Women work area—trained participants on topics such as governance, risk management, effective communication and transitioning to leadership roles. The participants were also paired with mentors who would provide them with ongoing support and guidance.

The broader purpose of the pilot project was to demonstrate how such training could help close the gender gap on boards and in corporate management.

"The thing that this program's supposed to build is confidence; to know that all doors can be opened and all it takes is networks and a sense of confidence or belief in oneself," said PSDI Economic Empowerment of Women Coordinator Vijaya Nagarajan.
